It seems for the most part that all the fuzz surrounding Brian Roberts a potential trade has died down. The Orioles who are in a monsterous rebuilding stage, already having traded superstars Erik Bedard and Miguael Tejada, were looking to shop the valuable leadoff hitter Roberts to the Chicago Cubs.
Roberts expressed his concern about the uncertainty of his future saying “I don’t know what the resolution is — I haven’t heard anything except what somebody told me,”. “[Andy McPhail and I] talked for two minutes here yesterday. ‘Highly unlikely’ doesn’t seem like a resolution to me.” However, Roberts warned that once the season starts he has an important job to do and he will not negotiate trades and contracts during the season.
FootballBaseballtalk’s Take: The switch hitting leadoff hitter is a very valuable peice in the rebuilding stage for the Orioles. There is not plausible reason to trade him because he’s worth less on the market than he is to Baltimore and it’s community. Roberts is a fan favorite in the Baltimore area and his numbers have been getting progressively better (he stole a career high 50 bases last yr). Oriole fans should be happy to have him back for atleast the beggining of another season.
