Veteran Blue Jays slugger Frank Thomas vows that his spring training difficulties are not a big deal at all and have become habit for him. The 39 year old slugger is known for his frequent bad starts to seasons. Thomas expresssdno concern saying “I’ve had great spring trainings and I’ve had bad spring trainings, when the lights turn on its a different ballgame. I think people are panicking for no reason.”
There is a lot of incentive for Thomas to play well. As part of his contract he can earn a guaranteed $10 million if he is able to rack up 376 plate appearences, he had 624 last year. Last season he had a rough spring but finished with a .277 batting average, 27 Home runs and 95 RBI.
Footballbaseballtalk’s Take: Thomas could potentially be a good fantasy Home run and RBI player, especially with the Blue Jays explosive lineup. He is not worth an early round pick but is definatly a late round steal in the utitlity slot. Expect about a .260 batting average, 25 home runs, and 90 RBI.
